No humorous family story can be complete
without a mention of my Chhote Mamma (maternal uncle) -Dr. Nadeem Mohsin. His exploits are
quite legendary and might need a book (something like ‘The Adventures of Tom Sawyer’ !!).
His practical jokes, mimicry, wisecracks, hilarious jokes & stories have
kept all of us in splits for many decades now.
He would have made a great stand up comedian.
Here are a few which come to mind now.
Chhote Mamma (CM) has a great knowledge and
love of Hindi movies. We used to be spellbound by his recital of 'Mughal-e-Azam' dialogues. He remembers them front to back and back to front !! In his younger days, in Ramzaan, he
would go to the movie hall in the morning, watch all 3 shows and come back home
just in time for Iftaar. Kya ibadat ka tareeqa hai !!
One of CM’s stories is when he was in St.
Xavier’s College Ranchi. He with some of his other (like-minded!!) classmates
secretly smuggled a goat into the class. Every so often the goat will go
‘Mee-ee-ee’ and the professor will go ballistic unable to understand who this
new student is !!
CM will drive his scooter in the narrow and
crowded ‘gullies’ of Sabzi Bagh, Patna at a very high speed. I remember he would even
enter the house (Dar-ul-Amaan) and drive his scooter at full speed through the 'aangan' and veranda and park it, all in one motion and with a totally nonchalant
expression on his face. As little kids we were absolutely fascinated by these antics.
His endearments for his son Seheran (when
he was a toddler) are also worth remembering – ‘Mere pintoo hotel ke Rasgulle.......meri Kozy ki Pastry.......’
All the kids were so fond of CM that we will
implore him not to go to office so that we can have fun with him...........for
us he was a 24/7 comedy channel !!
Masha Allah, he is still very young (at heart) and still very funny.................
