Dance of Democracy Ends

The Indian elections results were declared today. It has been a resounding victory for BJP & Allies and Narendra Modi is set to become the next Prime Minister. The BJP win far outstripped all opinion and exit polls and they have been been able to get a simple majority on their own, something which happened last time in 1984.

Many congratulations to Narendra Modi and the BJP for their stupendous show.

Congress has been routed. They have got less than 50 seats, by far their worst performance ever. Thankfully Sonia and Rahul won. But some tough decisions are facing them.
Time to Look Beyond Rahul

The result gives BJP a clear mandate and hence they should be able to take the country on a growth path as they have promised.

They also need to quickly show that they will be taking everyone along, specially the Muslims who comprise of 14% of the population. I am sure they will realise that India's diversity has to be considered and everyone should participate and contribute.

The elections have been relatively peaceful and the result accepted by all. But there are some questions on the Elections being stretched over 6 weeks and 9 phases. It did give an advantage to the party which was leading as per the opinion polls. Towards the end people realizing who the winner will be, tilted more towards the likely winner.  Hence this practice of spreading the elections over such a long time should be re-evaluated.
