Sangakkara

Day before yesterday the England - Sri Lanka Test Match ended in the most tantalizing draw. Sri Lanka was 9 down but England couldn't get the last man Nuwan Pradeep who played out the last 5 balls from Stuart Broad. This Test at Lord's saw an outstanding contribution by Sangakkara. He made 147 and 61.

Sangakkara's batting figures are quite formidable. He has a career average of nearly 59 and his average in 75 tests when he was not the wicketkeeper is 70+. This is next only to Don Bradman in the history of the game.

Now people are waking up to the fact that Sangakkara deserves to be ranked alongside Sachin, Ponting, Dravid, Kallis & Lara. This is what a century at Lord's can do.......Real cricket lovers knew this for uite some time but for the English to recognize this, takes a great performance at Lord's !!

Sangakkara is improving with age, his records keeps getting better & better, even his ODI record.

Apart form being a great batsman, he is a very intelligent and erudite man, someone like Rahul Dravid. He is a lawyer by profession, and a wonderful public speaker too.

Giving up the captaincy has also done him a world of good.

There was another rather weird ODI match played yesterday. India were all out for 105 but then they dismissed Bangladesh for 58 !! Stuart Binny taking 6 for 4, the best ever performance by an Indian bowler in ODIs. The whole match lasted only 43 overs !!

Today my Manjhale Abbi (Dr Naiyer Alam) has undergone Bypass Surgery. The operation is over now and he has been moved to recovery room now. We pray for his speedy recovery, Insha Allah. My parents have also gone to Delhi when they came to know that Manjhale Abbi will be undergoing this major operation.
